How to Read Our xG Table in 30 Seconds

Most league tables tell you what happened. This table adds the quality of the chances behind those results, helping you spot when the scoreline and the performance tell different stories. It is useful context—not proof of every deflection, save or referee decision.

Read each row from left to right. xG measures are per-match averages; GF and GA are actual totals for the selected matches.

1. The core numbers

  1. xG (Expected Goals Created): how dangerous the attack was. 1.65 xG means the chances created were worth roughly 1.65 goals on average. Higher is better.
  2. xGA (Expected Goals Conceded): how dangerous the chances allowed were. 0.31 xGA means opponents created very little. Lower is better.
  3. xGD (Net Chance Balance): xG minus xGA. Positive means the team won the chance-quality battle; negative means opponents created more.

2. The reality check

  • Goals vs xG: shows whether finishing ran above or below the chances created. A positive number can mean hot finishing or a fortunate spell; a negative number can mean wasteful finishing or excellent goalkeeping.
  • GF & GA: the actual goals scored and conceded. Compare them with xG and xGA to see whether the scoreline matches the chance quality.

How to read it

  • xG is expected goals created; higher means better-quality chances.
  • xGA is expected goals conceded; lower is stronger defensively.
  • xGD is xG minus xGA. It describes who controlled chance quality over the selected sample.
  • Goals vs xG shows whether finishing ran above or below the chances created. It is not automatically a forecast.

Data honesty

Only matches containing a genuine expected_goals value are included. Missing analytics stay missing—they are never converted to zero. Small samples can swing sharply, so the number of rated matches is always shown.
